For Students
To begin, you will need to create an account. Looking in the top right-hand corner of the website, click the log-in/create new account link, and follow the screens to create a new account. Your username should be last name first initial lrch as in "kelleheralrch" (for myself). Please be sure to your your real name on your account because part of the point of this website is to have your work known.
Once you have done this, tell your teacher who will authenticate your account and you will be able to log in. Now, it is time to upload your article.
Now that you have an account and a place to put your new article, assuming one by the same name doesn't already exist, click the edit button to the top of the white area and then begin to put in your article, formatting as necessary. Instead of indenting at the start of paragraphs, make sure to create two blank lines between paragraphs. The system will not recognize the indentations.
Once your article is in place, its time to add in your indexing notes and categorization. First, start with the indexing. At the top of the page, you will create a blank line to put in the following code:

Be sure to replace every instance of "YourValues" with whatever goes in that area. Concerning the interview-media value, this value will, if you have the interview in the form of a transcription, video, or audio (see below for the latter two), a link. To make this a link to those values, you will link to the page they are on. To form the link, you will put single brackets around the name of the article containing the media, i.e. [Interview_With:Such_By_Such]. This will form a link in your indexing box to the media to create some interconnectivity between the pages.
To preserve visual consistency, please have no blank lines between the indexing information and your article. This ensures that it will start at the top of the page, not somewhere else. Don't use quote marks when you insert your values, and ask your teach for assistance should you need it. Now, using mostly the same values, you will categorize your article at the very bottom of your article. You will, unless other circumstances arise, only categorize based on the values of place through central figure (referencing the indexing notes), and do so in a similar manner, as such:

YourCategoryNames will act the same as "YourValues". When adding these categories at the bottom, please remember to place them in in order: Time Period, Place, Setting, Main Focus, and Narrator Identity. This ensures that there is a consistency amongst the articles and makes for easier browsing by viewers.
Once you are done, click the "signature" button above the input area, second from the right. Now click "Save page" at the bottom and save it. Lastly, viewing the article, click the "protect" button at the top to protect your article from someone else editing it without your consent. Just use the "block unregistered users" setting when doing so, then save it and you're done.
For Teachers
Teachers will need to create accounts like students, though they don't need to follow the same naming schema exactly. They should, for ease, make their username firstname.lastname and then tell an administrator who will authenticate their account with the permissions needed to authenticate student accounts.
Uploading Files
Should an article need an accompanying image, there is a procedure to upload one to the system. To begin, click on the "Upload file" link in the toolbox on the left. Browse to the location of your new file then chose a name for the file (a default one is filled in for you). In the Summary section on the upload page, in addition to the summary of what the image is (if necessary), add to the bottom the tag to assure that the image is categorized properly. In addition, should the image belong to an additional cateogry, add it as necessary (i.e. PageDocuments or LRCH Integration Crisis).
To use this image in an article, click the "Embedded Image" button when editing an article, remember what you named the image so you can link to it. If you have a large image and would like to make a thumbnail, in the [[Image: tag, after your images name, without adding any spaces add |thumb and to justify the image (i.e. make it stick to a certain part of the page, left, center, right, and have content go around it) just add |justification after the previous tag, with no spaces in between, and replace justification with left center or right, which suites your fancy.
Uploading and Adding Video
Video can only be uploaded to the system as a .flv extension in the size 320 x 240 (width x height). To convert video to this extension you will need to use a converter. Download the .flv converter here. Once you have done that, please install this program and then use it to convert your video as per the program. Instructions for doing this will be added shortly.
Once you have converted the video, you are now capable of uploading it via the upload link. It is recommended no file be any longer than 10min, though exceptions can be made on a per-case basis. When uploading, in the Summary box of the image, add the tag to properly categorize the video. From there you can create a new article with the video and a summary or transcription of it.
When creating a new document for a video, you'll essentially have two parts. The video and then the trasnscription or summary, the last part you can perhaps leave out, though indexing has yet to be added for videos, but will be in the near future. To create the video, you will put in a small string into your new page (following similar guidelines to adding a article) like so
where VideoName is the name of the video (i.e. Interview with Such Person) and RelativePath is the relative location of your video against the upload directory.
This last part may seem confusing, but its not that bad. When the system uploads a video, it uploads it into http://www.lrchmemory.org/wiki/images/ and then into a few more folders below that. The path value will put in everything from http:// to /images/ for you, so you have to put the rest in. On the upload page with your video on it, you'll see near the top something that says "VideoName.flv (SizeKB, MIME type: unknown/unknown)" where VideoName.flv is a link of your video's name to the video, and SizeKB is the size in KB the file is. If you right click on the link and copy the shortcut, you will have the entire link for your video. Now, on your page where your video will be displayed, paste in the above string and replace RelativePath with this entire link. But you aren't quite done yet, now remove from the beginning of that link http://www.lrchmemory.org/wiki/images/ and leave whatever comes after that as the value. Then make sure there are no spaces between the quotation marks andthe values, and then you can add below the video the transcription or summary (double enter of course). Yet what is most important is that if there is an essay or multiple essays that are based off this video, they should be linked to at the bottom. They should be set up as the title of the article (using underscores of course, instead of spaces) with single brackets around them, like such: [I_Thought_This:Interview_With_Such_By_Such][I_Also_Thought_This:Interview_With_SameSuch_By_SameSuch]. This promotes interconnectivity within the project.
When done, save the page and view it to make sure it works.
Uploading and Adding Audio
Video can only be uploaded to the system as a .mp3 extension. To convert video to this extension you will need to use a converter. This is not hard to find, but if you are having trouble I recommend . As you will soon see, uploading and adding an audio object is almost exactly the same as video.
Once you have converted the audio, if it needed it, you are now capable of uploading it via the upload link. When uploading, in the Summary box of the image, add the tag to properly categorize the audio. From there you can create a new article with the audio and a summary or transcription of it.
When creating a new document for an audio file, you'll essentially have two parts. The audio and then the trasnscription or summary, the last part you can perhaps leave out, though indexing has yet to be added for audio, but will be in the near future. To create the audio part, you will put in a small string into your new page (following similar guidelines to adding a article) like so <audio path="RelativePath">AudioName</audio> where AudioName is the name of the audio file (i.e. Interview with Such Person) and RelativePath is the relative location of your audio file against the upload directory.
This last part may seem confusing, but its not that bad. When the system uploads a file, it uploads it into http://www.lrchmemory.org/wiki/images/ and then into a few more folders below that. The path value will put in everything from http:// to /images/ for you, so you have to put the rest in. On the upload page with your audio on it, you'll see near the top something that says "AudioName.mp3 (SizeKB, MIME type: unknown/unknown)" where AudioName.mp3 is a link of your audio files's name to the audio, and SizeKB is the size in KB the file is. If you right click on the link and copy the shortcut, you will have the entire link for your audio file. Now, on your page where your audio will be played, paste in the above string and replace RelativePath with this entire link. But you aren't quite done yet, now remove from the beginning of that link http://www.lrchmemory.org/wiki/images/ and leave whatever comes after that as the value. Then make sure there are no spaces between the quotation marks and the values, and then you can add below the video the transcription or summary (double enter of course).Yet what is most important is that if there is an essay or multiple essays that are based off this audio, they should be linked to at the bottom.
